Fear, the “block” which impedes what is possible. What fears do you have? Perhaps it’s speaking in front of a group. Perhaps it is sharing your story in an e-book or book format. Perhaps it’s shooting a selfie or video or yourself and posting it on social media. We all have fears, yes even those who you deem a sports star, celebrity, professional speaker… yes everyone has fears. Well not your animal, birds or the wild bunny who sits outside the deck at my house awaiting for spring to arrive to eat my flowers.
When I am referencing fear I am discussing things which are not physically harmful to you.
The Les Brown quote I feel sums fear up, “Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.” Fear holds people back at seeing what is possible. Imagine fear being a dot in the middle of a circle and outside the circle is another circle with the words possibility.
Many people feel trapped within the circle of fear and never break out to reach the circle of possibility.
I recently started an individual coaching program helping individuals achieve, which they deem important to them. When I had the idea of personal coaching, I had so much fear. Statements and thoughts entered my mind such as: “You are not a trained coach!”, “Can you really help anyone?“, “ You don’t have time”, “What if no one wants you to coach them?”, “What if you fail at personal coaching?” Yes, even I who authored a book had this fear which was grasping me.
The “blocks” were impeding my mind, however I decided to push the circle of fear and proceed ahead. So how can you push through the circle of fear? Ok, I’d like you to write down what fear do you have right now. Stop reading this and write down that fear.
Here are the steps you need to push through that fear.
1st – Identify it. What is that fear holding you back? Have you taken the time to write it down? If not why? Perhaps you don’t want to push through the circle of fear. I don’t believe so, given you are reading this. Write it down.
Now answer this question- Why do I feel this way about that fear? Then answer this question. How will I feel when I push through this fear? Allocate the needed time to answer these two questions. It will be important to be connected to your end feelings of pushing through the circle of fear.
2nd – Put yourself around others who can help you push through this circle. When trying to move something heavy, isn’t it easier if you had someone help you move it? Of course!
Just a few years ago, we had a heavy tube TV I needed to move out of the house. You know the kind with the large back end! There was no way I could pick up the TV on my own. I had no idea how much it weighted but it was HEAVY! I asked a friend to help me and by us picking up the TV, it was much easier to move.
The same is true when facing that fear you have identified. Having a person or group to help you push through the circle of fear, will help you transfer the weight, so you begin to make the push.
3rd – Know WHY. Know why you want to push through that circle and identify it. If you cannot identify the WHY behind pushing through the circle, you will eventually remain in the circle. Your why has to be so strong it will pull you through the difficulties you will face.
One of my mentors is Brendon Burchard and he says you need to embrace the journey even the struggles and difficulties.
Understanding there will be struggle and times you will fall down, just go back to why you want to push through, given it can power you back up.
4th – Action. You have to take action. Sounds simple right? Yet many, do not even take that first step. When identifying action, you need to clearly outline what steps will I take and when will I take these steps. I’d recommend you utilize your calendar to allocate the necessary time needed each day and identify what you will work on. One of the tools which can help you is something I’ve utilized twice and will be utilizing a third time, it’s called The Freedom Journal.
Having a well thought out plan will put you into action and having a tool such as The Freedom Journal will help you push through.
5th – Believe. Increase your level of belief by putting good fuel into your mind. It can be a good book, positive words, anything which will power your mind. This needs to be something you do daily and not just a once a week action. Fueling the mind will increase your level of belief. Find that source you will plug into daily.
These five steps will help you push through your circle and allow you to reach the circle of possibility! Yes, it is possible to push through your fears.
I did when I started the Tide Turners Coaching program. Here are two testimonials.
“Cardiff D. Hall is my coach of choice. I had the opportunity to hear him speak at the Igniting Souls Conference and again at one of the monthly Igniting Souls Fellowships. His enthusiasm and excitement is contagious. After working with Cardiff on my upcoming e-book, I came away with more clarity, determination and dedication to the project. Join the Tide Turners… you’ll be glad you did.” -Kathy Binner.
“In addition to guiding people to change their lives through his writing, he is also a knock it out of the ballpark coach. Thank you for being you and serving others. I’ve personally been blessed.” –Daphne V Smith.
